Means Wright Cemetery
These photos where taken in June of 2009 in Summers county West Virginia
This is the first time these photos have been published anywhere
Photos taken by Cathy Jo Means
Keep in mind that this part of the country  became Mercer county Virginia in 1837
in 1863 it became Mercer West Virginia
in 1871 it became Summers West Virginia
Prior to 1837 it appears to have been a part of Giles County Virginia
On these stones you will see DC, this is for deceased.
I don't know for sure but I believe that Charles William the first was the carver on most if not all these stones
most stone where covered in dirt and moss making them unreadable.
I used a soft bristle brush and a mild bleach soap mixture to clean them with.
Every attempt to leave them as found was made. No stones where moved in any way.
The cemetery is on private land outside the family and you MUST get permission to enter
I have included maps showing the rough location of cemetery. I did not have GPS capabilities to mark the exact location

To get from gate to cemetery go to far end of pasture
after you get to the end of the pasture you have to cross a small ditch and a swampy area and go for about 100 yards or so from the pasture,  and off to the right is a small stream cross it  and be looking for an old overgrown road the cemetery is on the east side right at the end and above  the road on a hill

Hugh Means with date visible
The date was buried and I had to remove about 3 inches of decayed leaves and such to be able to see it
it was recovered to help prevent weathering.
